Aethermoor Prices

The party pressed on to Aethermoor and, once inside, did some shopping. Rations were selling for five times their usual price on account of scarcity, which did not improve anyone's mood.

Gifts from the Gate

Castor Morwen and Ventus Harrow received the party. Kaelen was given a Sigillum and 50 gold pieces, Gremm was given an elephant, and Kerialalta was given a horse. Lotus turned down the free mount Ventus offered and bought a war pony with saddlebags instead.

Asked where to find the physician, Ventus said to look in the hospital district, where two large lines stood: one led to the hospital, the other to the physician. When Lotus asked where he might buy spells, Ventus said the rumour was that Wendel Rooke was somewhere in the area. Lotus took this to heart and began asking everyone he passed whether they were Wendel. One of them answered, "Do I look like a goblin?"

The Wrong End of the Line

Lotus tried to skip the physician's queue and was thrown back. He then rushed past the line, and the rest of the party followed. Kerialalta was vomited on by someone waiting, and a couple of irritated patients smeared bodily fluids on Gremm's shield.

The door was locked. Lotus knocked and was told, "I am seeing a patient." He knocked again and got the same answer. He tried to pick the lock, failed badly, and damaged his lockpicks.

The Physician

Shortly afterwards the door opened and a man walked out with a very bloody rag and blood on his collar, looking perfectly healthy. The party began firing questions at the physician. He had finished his training and come to Aethermoor a couple of weeks ago, and he had been healing faster than he should for about as long. He told them he learned medicine in Highwatch.

He asked whether anyone needed treatment, and when nobody did, he waved in a patient with an arrow in the thigh. He asked whether the patient minded being treated in front of a crowd, removed the arrow, and bandaged the leg. The patient walked out without a limp. Kerialalta used Medicine and judged that the procedure alone should not have healed the leg that thoroughly.

Meanwhile Ichnos had pushed his head through the door to sniff at the physician, and Skylos was trying to get in because there was a Corgi in the room. The physician hummed and paused at some of the parties questions as the party watched. He tried to push the dogs out and failed. Gremm told him, "We are inconvenient, we are asking for five minutes of your time." The physician gestured at the queue and said, "That person has a head wound... what do you have to ask that is more important than their head!?"

A Look Inside a Head

Kerialalta offered to help with patients. Two were waved in, and with their permission the physician began examining the head wound. Kerialalta's Medicine check failed, and the physician removed the bandage and exposed the patient's brain. Lotus, who was standing on the physician's shoulder at the time, took a look, failed a Constitution check, and vomited on the floor.

The physician told the two patients he needed to clean up and sent them back to the line for now. He locked the door and started on the mess, and Kerialalta helped. When it was done he slumped into a chair and said, "Ok, what do you want?"

The Crossbow Test

Lotus spent ten minutes trying to talk Kaelen into letting him injure him, so they could see whether the physician healed with magic. Then he shot Kaelen with a crossbow.

The physician opened the door, waved a hand, and whistled piercingly, a commonly accepted way to summon the town guard. Kaelen tried to strangle Lotus, who escaped. The guards arrived and the party left. Kerialalta apologized for his friends and left a gold piece behind, then treated Kaelen's wound. Nothing was resolved with the physician.

A Plan, of Sorts

The party decided to go and speak to Aldric, planning to claim that they had brought the physician to Aethermoor.
